I seems as though the months are flying by, and February was amazing. Maridith and I have been very busy through out the first of the month with school. We both are doing very well in school and enjoying all that TCCC has to offer. We have been involved with several weekend retreats at SWO, but the busiest we have been is planning and preparing for the trips that we will be taking. On that note, I would like to give you a report on Maridith’s trip to Peru and Maldonado.
She left mid-February from Atlanta for a 19-day trip to participate in the Xtreme girls training in Puerto Maldonado. If you remember, Maldonado is where I did my training and from where I worked for about a year. We found that saying good-by was not easy and though I miss her dearly, I am so very proud of her. She is with a wonderful group of women that will be with her the whole of her time in South America. She will be meeting up with a group of North American missionaries who will be there for the training. This training is very strenuous and also quite physical.
They arrived in PM and had the pleasure of staying at the Anaconda Lodge with two friends of mine, Donald And Wadi the owner/operators of the lodge. Their time with Donald and Wadi was enjoyable but short. They were there two days then it was off to Chonta, the location of their training.
The girls started out with a 25km hike into the jungle. From there they will be living in tents until they can build their houses. They will be trained in many aspects of the missionary life, from Bible storying and water purification to construction and fishing.
It is the rainy season in Peru and it has rained every day of the training! The girls are doing well but have been in wet clothes for a week and the bugs and rashes are getting out of hand. Please pray for this situation. I know that they are learning a lot and we ask for your continual prayer for Maridith and her teammates. She will be in Peru till the 8th of this month.
In other news we are busy training and organizing the participants of the Honduras mission trip that will take place April 6-18th. We are very excited to facilitate these trips for the churches of Hillside and Faith. The fund raising is coming along well for both churches, praise God. Maridith and I are still a little short, so if you would like to support us in this trip please let us know robertwlane@gmail.com
Also the next big thing is the preparation for the Echelon team Africa in 2011
Echelon is a team being developed to take the gospel to people groups on the continent of Africa that have not yet heard of Christ and His salvation. This will be a team supported through the IMB and we will be working in Africa. The need is staggering on this large and dark continent. We know that in and of ourselves we are helpless, but God has called us there, and that is the element that makes the difference. We go in His power and in His will. The road is long and there is still much to do. We would be grateful if you would prayerfully consider how you could help us with this.
Maridith and I are preparing to work as the language specialists of the Echelon team. This is an involved process and we both have much more to learn and experience in order for us to gain the capacity to serve as language coaches. So what does that look like for us? The process has already started. I have been studying the French language for about seven months now and I have had much success. “Why French?” you ask. Around 115 million Africans in 31 countries throughout Africa speak French. In preparation for the work in Africa Maridith and I must be fluent in the language in order to teach and learn in French speaking Africa.
In our investigation for French language schools, we found Ecole De Langue Des Cèdres to be a highly recommended French immersion school operated by a church in Massy, France. We will study there starting in August and return in December. This school will provide an environment where Maridith and I can learn French and minister to the people there in Massy. We are excited about having you join with us in the beginnings of our journey to Africa.
We know that not everybody is called to go as a missionary but you can take part right where you are. The immediate need that we have is $3,200. This is the amount we need to buy plane tickets and register for classes. This will leave about $9,000 more for us to raise by the end of the summer. We ask you to prayerfully consider how God could use you to be senders for Maridith and I as we follow God’s call to the nations.
With love - the Lanes
